Earn Your Story: The Hardest Things

Courage doesn’t come from trials and tribulations; courage comes after you’ve survived. Emily is a woman who exhibits this mantra, because she has lived it as a deployed Marine in Afghanistan, and now as a mother of two beautiful young daughters.                 At the Naval Academy, all the men wanted to date her, and all the women wanted to be her. Not because she was an exuberant with her talent and strength, but because of her humility in those gifts. She studied, went to Catholic mass, ran beside sea-foam green coast of Annapolis water, and worked on herself as a role model.                 “I wanted to know myself, and sometimes that connection was hard, and sometimes it wasn’t, but I...

Earn Your Story: Cross-Country Sweden Part 1

Cross-country skiing is a form of skiing where disciplined technique is developed to glide or skate. To many, it seems picturesque and romantic in a holiday-activity way. But, grab a beer with give-and-take conversation over the reality of what cross-country skiing is: blisters the size of coasters, sprained ankle after sprained ankle, knees that are a permanent shade of purple from bruises, and stamina to trek for 10 miles a day in freezing temperatures. This is a marriage of commitment plus aptitude, and Colin VanderCreek is an example of that.                 He’s impulsive about nothing in his life except for trips. Last year, he found a cheap flight to Sweden, and looked for a reason to go. An eight-day cross-country ski...

Earn Your Story: Husband and Wife Truckers

Lyssa is the Trayvax Shipping Department Supervisor. She is also the template of just how exactly someone, earns their story. If Trayvax customers, and supporters, can’t all summit frigid mountain peaks on a Thursday, who are they and what are they doing? Lyssa is just that person.            Before Lyssa started at Trayvax, she and her husband Bill needed a subversive adventure back in 2001. As a husband and wife team, they went to Cedar Rapids and trained for three weeks on how to drive a truck. It was a way for them to develop a deeper friendship, but also presented a challenge in trying to succeed, together, in a completely foreign profession neither had prior...

Earn Your Story: Christmas

The most important aspect of Christmas--creating memories with your loved ones--can get lost in the hustle and bustle of getting ready for it.          Trayvax is the opposite of that uphill battle. Hand-made, made-in-America wallets with character and class, that’s exactly what the fancy department stores are missing. Because Trayvax creates products that are meant to withstand a lifetime of use, and be passed down from generation to generation, just like your grandfather’s baseball glove, these principals transfer over into relationships, too.           As the stress of the 25th comes near, we encourage you to think outside the box in terms of gift giving. Instead of sticking to the cliche wrapped boxes with curly...

Earn Your Story: The Limits of Age

When Michael turned 61, he asked himself, “Do I still have it in me?” He, like Trayvax, wanted to know if what others say can’t be achieved, can be.                 After his birthday, Michael had a glass of wine to instill navigational courage, and mapped out an aggressive four-day trek into the back-country of the Olympics. His thick brown hair, yet to be peppered with gray, five diverse children, successful career in the Navy, a self-taught carpenter, best friend with his wife, and ability to teach anyone at a block party how to plant the perfect tomato, is his charismatic simplicity. Retirement at 61 challenged this simplicity for him to ask: what if?                 He snuggled...
