Earn Your Story: Wanderlust

Trayvax encourages exploration in the outdoors, because it strengthens us in a fashion that can’t be found elsewhere. Trayvax-style travel means you risk becoming uncomfortable in a foreign environment, with the hopes to see and live experiences you may have otherwise missed. Meghan has done just that.
A thick case of wanderlust, and need for a mental escape from her Federal job, caused her to purchase a ticket to Guatemala, a place she had never been before. For Meg, this trip was part of a promise she had made to herself: to explore new places without question. The five days she spent there, she was outside hiking Pacaya Volcano which peaked at 8,000 feet. A local guide showed her the best trail-heads to start from, and the days after she covered the volcano with her own navigational intuition.
Meg remembers, “You could feel the heat from underneath the molten rock. Actually my favorite day was when I had an idea, and it worked, I roasted marshmallows from one of the rock openings that was emitting heat.”
Meg also recalls a fellow furry companion that found her on the 4th day going up the volcano, 5 miles in, and she named him Little Bean Frijolito, “He was quite far from civilization, but sort of came from nowhere and knew the way, as if he was guiding me up. Frijolito stayed with me to see the beautiful vista of the Central American Volcanic Arc.”
For Meg, this trip was rewarding because it gave her the opportunity to see landscape in a different part of the world. There was satisfaction in not only pushing her limits to experience something new, but being wanderlust outdoors in a foreign country, showed her what the world has to offer.
