Earn Your Story: Her Way Back

Trayvax is not just about the possibility of exploration, but the craft behind those that pursue it. We are interested in customers who have earned their story through soulful determination. Simply put, what makes a person refuse to give up when the universe takes without warning? Katie is one of those customers who will help us to determine that answer.

Katie can be found tucking her Trayvax Axis into the pocket of her beige windproof pants before a weekend hike with her German Shepherd. She runs without music in her ears, competes in heavy-lifting competitions, and rock climbs with graceful technique. She is a brown-hair-, blue-eyed unicorn woman that makes life look lovely and effortless.

Just three years ago, though, she found herself in the clutch of a painful divorce from her high school sweetheart. Though on the outside she looked in control, on the inside it felt like everything was ruined and left behind.

For her, it was after months of food tasting like dirt, washing pottery plants in the bathtub to pass a Saturday night, that she radically accepted it was time to look to her core strength to discover who she was beyond her past.

“I had no idea what I was doing, but I decided to fake it.”

She turned to the outdoors, and gym, for validation. Running, CrossFit, and rock climbing put her amongst a set of peers who pushed her emotionally and physically to be the person she strained to see, herself.

Working her body past its limits made forgiveness transform into something depressingly beautiful, instead of impossible.

“I worked out every day not because I wanted to, but because I had to. It was a way to get back to myself. It was a new kind of peace I had never experienced in human form before.”

Katie is a millennial example of using disappointment to make oneself better instead of bitter. For that, she has earned her story.

As she recalls, “I wouldn’t change having to go through that. I wouldn’t be who I am without it.”
